Pick-Up Lines Are Stupid

While I was researching “The 40 Most Popular Men’s Websites” yesterday, I could not help but notice that there were multiple websites that prominently displayed large lists of pick up lines.

I get what guys find appealing about pick up lines. You see a beautiful woman, you’re interested in her and you feel like if you had something specific to say, it would make talking to her much easier.

But, if you don’t feel like you have the people skills to have a conversation with a woman, do you really think there’s a line that you can reel off that’s going to fix that? Here are some from a list I ran across yesterday.

• I heard you are looking for a stud. I’ve got the STD, all I need is U.
• Did you get those pants at 50% off? Cause they are 100% off at my place!
• Are you flappy bird? Cause I could tap you all night
• I hope you got a pet insurance, cause tonight I’m gonna destroy that pussy.
• Call me leaves, cause you should be blowing me.
• Do you know your ABC’s? Cause I wanna give you the 4th letter of the alphabet.

Do you think there is a woman alive who is going to go from neutral on you to enthusiastic because you spit out one of these lines?

I am not a pick-up artist, but I have interviewed them and I have even had face-to-face conversations with one of them I met through politics. I can also tell you that I have no problems talking to beautiful women. That doesn’t mean I can date them all or they’re secretly crushing on me, but I have zero problems holding a conversation with extremely attractive women and you know what I’ve learned? It’s all about energy, confidence and charm. Getting some practice in and feeling worthy of talking to a beautiful woman matters. Being good at stringing words together also helps, but it’s not all that important compared to everything else.

If you want to get better at talking to women, don’t bother with pick-up lines, just start talking to EVERYONE around you, including beautiful women. Don’t talk with an endpoint in mind for the conversation, just be conversational and find out what works for you.

Then, when you find a woman you’re interested in, you will feel comfortable talking to her. Will that mean her panties will instantly drop to the floor because of your newfound comfort with having those conversations? No, but pick-up lines won’t do that either and if you can have a decent conversation with her, you’re at least in the game.
